2020 is a jubilee year, as we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War. This date prompts us to remind the world about the price of this victory. Millions of our grandfathers and great-grandfathers gave their lives to stop Nazism and to ensure peace and freedom for us, their descendants. The whole multinational Soviet Union - including Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians, Kazakhs, Armenians, Georgians, Azerbaijanis and other peoples living in the USSR’s territory - rose to defend their country and their loved ones. Many Anti-Hitler coalition countries endured the toughness and hardship of war, too.
Today, the most important task is to preserve the historical memory of the sacrifice of the Soviet people and to counter attempts to revise the outcomes of World War II.
In the course of the jubilee year, Rossotrudnichestvo has been carrying out some large-scale international campaigns aimed to prevent history falsification, tell about the Soviet people’s sacrifice and the Red Army’s crucial contribution to the victory over fascism.
The joint project of Rossotrudnichestvo and the Russian Military Historical Society «The Roads of Victory» involves offline and online walking tours to the sites of Soviet soldiers’ military glory in such European cities as Belgrade, Warsaw, Budapest, Vienna, Berlin, Prague, after the liberation and the capture of which service medals were instituted. Bringing together Russian and foreign experts, online press conferences are organized on the issues of preserving historical memory and developing international cooperation in this area.
In cooperation with ANO «Do It Together!», Rossotrudnichestvo carries out an international competition «The Victory is one for all!» for high school students, aimed at preserving the memory of the Great Patriotic War and at stimulating history learning. Schoolchildren from near and far abroad countries explore the heroic destinies of their compatriots having contributed to the collective Victory over fascism.
The «Dictation of Victory» campaign is organized annually with the support of Rossotrudnichestvo. It is an international historical campaign allowing Russian and other countries’ citizens to test their knowledge of the Great Patriotic War. In 2019, it was held in 85 regions of Russia and 23 foreign countries.
Russian centers for science and culture annually carry out events mainly focused on preserving historical memory and countering attempts to distort the history of the Great Patriotic War. The Centers hold presentations of thematic exhibitions, commemorative and special publications, as well as organize film screenings, gala concerts and other public events.
