The Cross Russian-Greek Year of Language and Literature opened in Thessaloniki

The inaugural ceremony of the Cross Russian-Greek Year of Language and Literature was held at the XVI International Book Fair in Thessaloniki.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras agreed to organize a cross year during the Greek Prime Minister’s visit to Moscow on December 7, 2018.

From the Greek side, the ceremony was attended by Greek Minister of Culture and Sports M. Zorba, Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs M. Bolaris, coordinator of the Committee for the observance of the Year I. Klis. The Russian side was represented by Ambassador of Russia to Greece A. Maslov, special representative of the President of Russia for international cultural cooperation M. Shvydkoi, First Deputy Minister of Education and Science of Russia G. Trubnikov, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo P. Shevtsov and others.

During the celebrations, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo Pavel Shevtsov presented the departmental awards to the Greek Russianists for the promotion and popularization of the Russian language in Greece.

The national stand of Russia was also opened. At the International Book Fair, Russia enjoys the status of a special guest. As for the Russian stand in Thessaloniki, more than a thousand books from 60 Russian publishers are presented there.
