Russia became a guest of honor at the virtual book fair in Mexico

The International Book Fair has been opened in the Mexican state of Hidalgo, and Russia has become its guest of honor. Russia’s participation is timed to the 130th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mexico.

Due to the threat of coronavirus infection spread, the fair is held online.

According to representative of Rossotrudnichestvo Andrey Pakhomov, such format provides new opportunities of attracting additional audience. The Russian online pavilion can be visited not only by Mexicans, but also by residents of other Latin American countries and everyone interested in Russian culture, history and traditions.

Guests of the fair will be able to observe exhibitions dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, to Russian architectural and natural sights, listen to the war years songs and classical works of Russian composers performed by compatriots’ musical collectives, attend lectures on Russian literature, history, get information about Russian education, participate in various master classes, such as culinary ones.

The Russian Embassy in Mexico, Rossotrudnichestvo office in Mexico City, compatriots’ organizations “Sorumex”, “RusAktiv”, as well as famous Mexican public figures, including director Sergio Olkhovich, editor of the “Estudios de Dostoevsky” magazine Luis Flores Lopez, took part in the preparation of the events of the Russian part of the program.

The fair will finish on September 6. According to the organizers, more than 200 thousand people are expected to visit its website, which will broadcast live speeches, lectures, exhibitions and concerts.
